Managerial hunt hots up as Roman Abramovich begins interviews

Chelsea have stepped up their hunt for a new manager, and according to reports, they have held formal talks with Italy coach Antonio Conte.

It’s been reported that the Italian flew over to London in order to talk with Stamford Bridge officials regarding the Chelsea hotseat that will become available once Guus Hiddink leaves.

The Dutchman is only there until the end of the season, after being appointed as interim-manager following Jose Mourinho‘s dismissal, and despite a turn in form, Hiddink won’t be taking the job for past this season as he’s eyeing retirement.

Conte is seen as a suitable appointment by Roman Abramovich as the Italian is out of contract from the Italy job over the summer, and is expected to leave his post following the European Championships.

The manager has made it clear that he wants to return to club management, having been successful with Serie A giants Juventus, and Chelsea could be the perfect role for him.

Managerial Targets

Conte is believed to be one of the main targets, along with fellow Italian Massimiliano Allegri and current Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini.

The club have reportedly dropped their interest in Diego Simeone and have obviously missed out on Pep Guardiola after he chose City.

According to reports, this is the second time Conte has met with Chelsea officials, the first being before Christmas, and with his desire to manage in the Premier League, the 46-year-old is already taking English lessons.

Conte will hold talks with the Italian FA later this month, which will make his future a lot more clearer.
