Sven-Goran Eriksson claims he doesn’t plan to launch a move for the England man
Sven-Goran Eriksson has today revealed that he doesn’t need to sign Wayne Rooney for Shanghai SIPG.
The former England manager had been linked with a move to bring the Man United man to China, where the two could work together again at his current club, Shanghai SIPG.
A move away from Old Trafford for Rooney is currently seeming more and more likely with the 31-year old being confined to the bench in recent weeks for both club and country, with only a string of sub appearances being made.
It has come after a series of disappointing performances from the forward, who is now being used in more midfield roles.
With playing time now hard to find in the Premier League, it means a move away from England for the first time in his career could very well be on the cards.
The MLS and China are two options
A number of Chinese Super League clubs are believed to be keeping tabs on him, while the MLS is another proposition for Rooney. LA Galaxy – who currently have his former England team-mate Steven Gerrard on their books – are one of a number of sides who are contemplating a move.
Now might be the right time for Rooney to finally make a move away from Old Trafford. But, according to Sven-Goran Eriksson, it won’t be his side that he moves to. Why? Because he believes he already has enough good forwards at the club.
So, although a move abroad might still be on, it probably won’t be to Shanghai SIPG.
