Blues showing interest in Premier League striker

Chelsea are showing shock interest in West Ham United striker Enner Valencia, and could launch a formal bid over the Summer.

The Blues are said to be in the market for a new striker, with Didier Drogba announcing his intentions of leaving the club once his contract expires in July.

That would leave just Diego Costa and Loic Remy as striking options for Jose Mourinho, both whom are prone to injuries.

Interest in Strikers

Chelsea have been linked with several strikers in recent weeks, including Christian Benteke from Aston Villa and Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers.

However, latest reports have them linked with a move for Valencia from The Hammers after showing brief interest in him during the January transfer window.

Enner’s Debut Season

The 25-year-old made 32 Premier League appearances for Sam Allardyce‘s side during his debut season in England, but only managed to net on four occasions.

The Ecuadorian joined the club from Pachuca in a deal worth ÂŁ12million.

Long-Term Deal

A potential issue for Mourinho is that Valencia signed a five-year deal at Upton Park last Summer, meaning he still has four-years left on his current deal. So if The Blues want to sign the striker, they will have to pay a hefty fee for him especially if West Ham aren’t keen on selling.

No decision will be made until The Hammers appoint a new manager, after Allardyce left this season, but it’s believed that Mourinho is a big fan of the 25-year-old and is prepared to offer big money.
