Spokesman from the club comment on Diego Costa incident with Gareth Barry

A spokesman for Chelsea Football Club has confirmed Diego Costa DIDN’T bite Everton midfielder Gareth Barry in yesterday’s FA Cup game.

The Toffees won the encounter 2-0 at Goodison Park thanks to a Romelu Lukaku brace, but it was Costa and Barry who stole the headlines after they came to blows late on in the game.

The two squared up to each other before Costa seemingly put his mouth close to the midfielder’s neck. Barry was booked for the incident, as was Costa, but for the Chelsea star it was his second yellow, so he was sent off.

Barry was then sent off just moments later, but after the game, a Chelsea spokesman denied reports claiming Costa bit the Everton star.

Club Statement

“Diego spoke to club officials after the game and expressed regret over his reaction to the challenge from Gareth Barry that led to his red card,” a Chelsea spokesman said.

“But Diego was also very clear that he did not bite him at any point during that altercation.”
