Defender to make return to first team

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma is set to make his first start under Antonio Conte this weekend in the FA Cup 3rd round.

Zouma injured his anterior cruciate ligament in February 2016 and hasn’t featured for the Blues since.

The Frenchman has been making a steady recovery to get back into the side, and the wait seems to finally be over.

He featured in the under-23’s side earlier this season to get some minutes on the pitch, and has been back training with the first team more recently.

And now Conte has confirmed Zouma will start against Stevenage on Saturday,

Speaking in his press conference today ahead of the game, Conte said: “He is ready to start. I’m pleased for him. He deserves this. It’s a good opportunity for him.

“His [Zouma’s] injury was very bad. I knew this, I talked with my club about it in May. For this reason we knew he needed more time”

“But now he’s in good shape, he’s ready to play and ready to resume his career.”
