The Blues have endured a poor start to the season

According to reports in Spain, Chelsea are considering a move for Valencia defender Jose Gaya, as they look to add steel to their back-line.

Spanish media outlet Fichajes claim that Jose Mourinho is prepared to meet Gaya’s release clause of ÂŁ36.6 million (€50 million), in order to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

This release clause is part of the new Valencia deal that the 20-year old signed earlier on in the year, but the Premier League champions are keen to persuade him in to making the switch from La Liga.

Mourinho’s men have conceded 12 goals in their opening five matches and missed out on quality centre-backs in the summer transfer window, most notably Everton’s John Stones and Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos.

Gaya, who can play centre-back or at left-back, is now tipped to move to West London in the January transfer window.
