Blues set to make second formal offer for centre-back

Chelsea Football Club are set to launch a fresh bid for Everton defender John Stones.

The Blues have already had a £20million bid turned down for the promising centre-back, but according to reports, the Premier League champions will improve that offer by £4m and offer £24m this time around.

Martinez Reluctant to Sell

Roberto Martinez has made it very clear that he doesn’t want to sell the 21-year-old as he plans to use him regularly next season in his first-team.

However, with Jose Mourinho desperate to land ‘the future John Terry‘, Martinez may be powerless to keep the England international away from Stamford Bridge.

According to some reports, Martinez would only sell Stones for around £34m, due to Barnsley having a sell-on clause in his contract.

Stones completed a move to Everton from the League One side for just £3m, but if The Toffees sell the centre-back, it means Barnsley are given some of the transfer fee.

It’s believed a £24m bid will also be rejected by Everton, but Chelsea are prepared to go as high as £30m if they have to.

Stones Wants Move

As for Stones, it’s been suggested that he is ready to complete the transfer as he informed the Merseyside club he wanted a move to a bigger club at the end of last season.

Stones would be competing with Terry and Gary Cahill for a regular first-team spot, but according to reports, the player believes he is ready to make the step up.
