Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Branislav Ivanovic set to be replaced from the starting lineup against Maccabi Tel Aviv

Jose Mourinho is set to drop three high-profile stars from his first team to try and get the Blues’ season back on track.

Chelsea have started their Premier League title defence in the worse possible way and are now 11 points off leaders Manchester City, having suffered three defeats in the opening five games.

Some of the Blues’ star performers from last season have endured miserable form at the start of this campaign and it appears Costa, Fabregas and Ivanovic could be facing the axe.

Nightmare start

It’s not just been the poor football that’s been talking points this season, Chelsea have also had off-field issues regarding Eva Carniero’s demotion from the bench.

Ivanovic has taken a lot of abuse for his defending, or lack of it, this season and could be replaced by ÂŁ17million summer signing Abdul Baba Rahman for the game at Stamford Bridge.

Fabregas, who featured in all of Chelsea’s Champions League group games last year, could lose his spot to Oscar while Loic Remy is set to get his chance up-front ahead of Costa.

With the Premier League already looking out of their grasp, the Champions League could be a silver lining for the Blues this season , and is the one major trophy to allude Mourinho at Chelsea.
