Benteke to become the second first-team player to depart in a week, following Fabian Delph’s switch to Manchester City
Christian Benteke is to undergo a medical at Liverpool in the next 48 hours, after Liverpool agreed a £32.5m transfer fee with Aston Villa.
Liverpool’s Doctor, Andrew Massey has left the pre-season tour in Australia, in order to fly to London, where Benteke will undergo a medical in the coming days.
Following the completion of his medical, the Belgian international will report to the Reds’ Melwood Training Ground, instead of joining his new team-mates in Australia.
Brendan Rodgers’ side met Villa’s £32.5m release clause of the 24-year-old, with the two top-flight clubs locked in talks over the weekend, to iron out the transfer.
Bitter blow for Villa
Benteke’s imminent departure from Aston Villa will come as a huge blow to manager Tim Sherwood, who has already lost captain Fabian Delph to Manchester City in an £8m deal.
Since signing for a fee of £7m from Belgian outfit Genk in August 2012 – Bentake has been Villa’s main threat in-front of goal, and netted 16 times in 38 appearances as he helped the second city club to survival, and an FA Cup Final last season.
