Danny Rose has thanked Mauricio Pochettino for giving him a chance to revive his career. The English international made a winning start to this season as Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester United 3-0.
Rose hadn’t made a start until Monday when Pochettino decided to include him in the starting lineup against the Red Devils and the left back repaid his faith with a pretty good performance.
Ben Davies had been the preferred choice on the left side of the defence but Pochettino preferred to unleash Rose who was regarded as one of the finest defenders England have ever produced.
With the transfer window still active in other countries Rose still has a chance to leave the club but after making his first appearance against Manchester United Rose may decide to stay and fight for his place.
“On Sunday, I was nervous to see if I was going to be in the squad [for United] and I really didn’t see myself playing.
“I was so shocked in the meeting before we arrived [at Old Trafford]. I thought there was going to be a change but never did I think that it was going to be me coming in. I’m over the moon that I was able to be part of it.
“I just thought the manager would have stuck with the back line that played the last few games. It was a surprise and I’d like to think it’s one that’s paid off. Now we forget about Monday and me, Ben [Davies] and Kyle Walker-Peters go again and try to push each other to play on Sunday.”
“Monday night was massive for me, even though there is speculation. [Pochettino] still trusts and believes in me to put me into such a massive game, where he didn’t need to change anything. For me, over the last four or five years we’ve worked together, Monday is probably the biggest thing he has done for me.”
