Jermain Defoe has said Steven Gerrard can win silverware with Rangers.
The former English international joined Rangers on an 18-month loan spell from Bournemouth.
Rangers striker Jermain Defoe has said that Steven Gerrard can win the Scottish Premiership with Rangers. The Bournemouth striker has joined the Gers on an 18-month loan spell and has praised his former national team colleague for his managerial prowess. The Gers are currently on the second place in the league table and are looking to topple the reigning champions Celtic who are currently on the top of the table.
The former English international said, “The rebuilding takes time. You saw that with one of my former clubs, Sunderland. It takes time. That’s a massive football club and I think, at this stage of my career, to have the opportunity to go to another massive football club, it’s a dream.”
He added, “I’m not one of those players who will come into thinking ‘I’ve been there done that’. I will come here like I’ve just started off my career. I want to do well and I want to work as many goals as I can. It will be strange working under Steve. It’s strange seeing him taking the meetings and stuff. That’s just the way football is. You never know where football will take you. I got that impression with him and Frank Lampard who has also gone on to be a manager. Sometimes you get players who have that presence. He has always had that presence. When I was at Tottenham Ledley King was there as captain. He never said anything. It was unbelievable. But just having him there with that presence. Steven’s got that presence and I think that’s really important as a manager.”
