Dortmund chief executive rules out sale of top scorer

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke says not even £75 million would be enough to buy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabon international has been arguably the league’s best player this season, scoring 27 goals in 27 games, but Dortmund still find themselves a place and eight points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.

Watzke insists that no amount a club offers will be enough to sell the 26-year-old, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain all targeting the striker.

Aubameyang’s career has blossomed in the last couple of seasons and broke the Bundesliga goal-scoring record with seven goals in his first six matches.

“Even if such an offer would come in, that would be irrelevant for us.” Watzke insisted.

“We are simply not selling Auba.”

Klopp reunion?

There has been speculation Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will return to his former club for players, and Aubameyang has been reported in recent months to be interested in a move to Anfield.

Both Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge have been struggling up front for the Reds, with the latter suffering from an ongoing injury crisis.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are in the market for a striker to accompany Olivier Giroud up front and add further fire power at the top end of the field, with the Frenchman their only major goalscorer outside of the midfield positions.

But all of Aubameyang’s potential suitors could be dealt a blow, as the Gabonese striker has previously stated he is interested in a move to La Liga.

However, if Watzke gets his way, then BVB fans will continue to be entertained by the brilliance of the striker who can’t stop scoring.
