Belgium was persuaded by Didier Drogba
Chelsea star Eden Hazard has admitted that he initially wasn’t keen on joining the Blues.
The Belgium international has received the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award this season, and is a fans favourite with the Blues’ supporters.
However, if Didier Drogba was not at the club then Hazard may not be a Blues player. It was Drogba who persuaded the 24-year-old to £32million transfer from French side Lille in 2012.
Hazard Reveals Move
Hazard said: “I didn’t want to go to Chelsea because I wanted to play in the Champions League and they were sixth in the league.
“I was convinced by the Champions League in 2012.
“At the time, Roberto Di Matteo really wanted me, they had Juan Mata and Oscar had been bought. I was told: ‘You’ll see, Chelsea will play football’.
“Gervinho called me and said: ‘Someone’s on the phone’. I didn’t know who it was, but it was Drogba, he wanted me to sign.
“I was flattered. In my head I wasn’t going to sign, but in the end I was very pleased with my choice.” he added.
