OFFICIAL: Kieran Trippier joins Atletico Madrid on a three-year deal

Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of 28-year old right-back Kieran Trippier from Tottenham Hotspur.

Trippier’s transfer cost Atletico Madrid ÂŁ20 million according to BBC and he will sign a three-year contract with the club.

Kieran Trippier leaves Tottenham Hotspur with 114 appearances to his name since joining the club from Burnley in 2015. The right-back scored twice and provided 24 assists for Spurs.

Trippier rose to prominence through his terrific performances for England during the World Cup in Russia last summer where he scored a stunning free-kick, albeit in a losing cause, in the semi-final against Croatia. He created 24 chances during the tournament, a record for any England player at the FIFA World Cup.

Trippier didn’t have the best of seasons in 18/19 as he made a few errors. Nevertheless, he ended up scoring a free-kick against Fulham and providing 5 assists in 38 appearances across all competitons as Spurs registered another Top 4 finish in the Premier League and reached the Champions League Final.

Kieran Trippier is Atletico Madrid’s 8th signing this summer which takes Atletico’s expenditure to €218 million. Trippier is also the very first Englishman to play for Atletico Madrid.
