Barcelona defender Jordi Alba has said that Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata would be welcome at FC Barcelona after recent rumours connected the Spanish forward with a move to Camp Nou.
The former Real Madrid striker has flattered to deceive at Chelsea so far and it has been suggested that Alvaro Morata could be on his way out with Barcelona a likely destination. Morata has produced a low return of 22 goals in 68 games so far and the Stamford Bridge bosses, who forked out a record amount for the Spaniard, might now be open to selling him.
FC Barcelona has reportedly expressed interest for an initial loan move in January with an option to extend in the summer for Morata. When quizzed about the possibility of the forward joining the Catalans, Jordi Alba had a glowing recommendation for his compatriot. ‘Morata is a player that I appreciate a lot, he has been a top player for many years,’ he said on Thursday. At the end, it’s the club’s [decision] if they want to sign him or not, as with any other player. If the rumours are true, he would be very welcome, as all the new players [are].’
Barcelona’s first choice forward Luis Suarez is falling prey to age and may not be the fearsome striker he once was. This would make their pursuit of Morata, who is seeking first-team action himself, a justified chase. Also, lest we forget to mention, capturing a former Madrid player would add another feather to the old cap of the El Clasico rivalry.
