Derby County have roped in Ashley Cole in a bid to strengthen their promotional battle.

The veteran left back has joined the Rams on a short term deal which will expire at the end of this season. The 38 year old will be seen playing under his one time colleague Frank Lampard who has been in the charge of Derby.

The former England international has had a pretty decorated career and has almost spent his entire career in the Premier League playing for the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.

The player left MLS side LA Galaxy last year and now will be donning the Rams jersey this season. The Championship outfit is doing quite well in the second tier as Lampard has led the side to the sixth position and the addition of the defender would be a great boost for them.

Lampard said, “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to secure Ashley’s services for the rest of the season.

He’s a fantastic player, a quality left-back, and he also brings great experience to the dressing room.

I know him very well from our time together at Chelsea, and with England, and I also know what he can bring to the group and the influence he will have.

Ashley is in good shape, which doesn’t surprise me because he’s an excellent professional, and he will compete for a place in the side like every other player here.”
