Howe’s men suffered a 2-1 defeat against AC Milan to face the exit of the Europe.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe left “absolutely devastated” after the heartbreaking loss against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League. With this defeat, they finished bottom of Group F and faced early elimination from Europe.

The Magpies faced a 2-1 defeat to Serie A giants at St James Park. AC Milan managed to earn the ticket of Europa League. PSG and Dortmund qualified as the top-two of Group F.

Newcastle were required to beat AC Milan and also hope that Dortmund avoid defeat against PSG. The PSG-Dortmund game ended in a 1-1 draw but the Magpies failed to earn three points.

It was the first UCL campaign for Newcastle in 20 years. Howe expressed his disappointment during a post-match interview with TNT Sports. He said, “I thought there were some really good bits, we were dominant at times, but probably needed the second goal. We didn’t defend the two goals well enough.

“It was very much end to end. Both teams were desperate to win. We wanted to win the game and we were trying to head for the Champions League so we had to be brave.

“They had to be brave. It made for a very good game. We did create chances and we’re absolutely devastated not to go through.”

Howe’s men have lost each of their last three games across all competitions. They currently sit seventh in the Premier League table and seven points behind of the top four. They will now welcome Fulham to St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.
