After initially joining Eintracht Frankfurt from Fiorentina on loan in 2016, Ante Rebic is returning to Serie A.
Croatian international Ante Rebic has signed for Italian club AC Milan, the club confirmed on Monday.
Rebic has left Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt to join AC Milan on a two-year-loan deal at a cost of €5 million with €20 million option to buy, Sky Italy revealed.
“AC Milan announces the agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for the acquisition of the footballer Ante Rebic on a two-year temporary basis”, the club said in a statement.
The Croatian international, who had been linked to Inter Milan throughout the transfer window, makes a return to Serie A, having first played for Fiorentina after a a €4.5 million move from Split in August 2013. He was then loaned out by Fiorentina to Hellas Verona before moving to Eintracht on a temporary basis in 2016. His loan to Germany was made permanent in 2018.
Rebic, who was a standout for Croatia at the 2018 World Cup, scoring against Argentina, scored 17 goals during his time in the Bundesliga. The 25-year-old forward scored nine Bundesliga goals last season and supplied four assists alongside former star team-mates Luka Jovic and Sebastien Haller, who joined Real Madrid and West Ham respectively in the close season.
The trio played a key role in Eintracht’s memorable run to the 2018-19 Europa League semi-finals, but Adi Hutter will be hoping Andre Silva can help fill the void up front after the former AC Milan player also agreed a two-year temporary deal.
“AC Milan announces the transfer of the forward Andre Miguel Valente da Silva to Eintracht Frankfurt on a temporary basis for two years. The Club wishes the footballer every success in the upcoming seasons”, the Rossoneri officially confirmed his departure.
Silva arrived at AC Milan from Porto amid much fanfare in 2017 but the Portugal international spent last season on loan with Sevilla, scoring nine La Liga goals and 11 across all competitions.
There had been some concerns, as the 23-year-old again had some Achilles tendon issues that were flagged up in a medical. The same problems had ended his proposed transfer to Monaco last month, but more specific tests found that it could be resolved.
