The 20-year-old rising star has been rewarded for a strong first season in Rome with a five-year deal that will keep him at the capital club until June 2024.

Zaniolo joined Roma last summer in a deal which saw Radja Nainggolan move the other way to Inter Milan. He made 36 appearances in his first season and scored six goals, and had been linked with a possible move to clubs including Manchester United and Tottenham.

“I would like to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to tie myself even closer to these colors – it is exactly what I wanted,” said Zaniolo. According to reports, the promising midfielder has earned an improved deal from €700 000 per season to €2 million.

Under extends Roma contract

In addition, following Nicolo Zaniolo’s reward of a new five-year deal, the Roman club secured Cengiz Under to a new contract on Friday.

The Turkey international midfielder has penned a new deal running until 2023.

Under is delighted to have committed to the Giallorossi, stating: “Every day I’ve felt more in love with this city, this club and these fans.

“This is a very happy moment for me. I want to thank the club for allowing me to achieve my wish and continue playing for Roma.

The 22-year-old joined from Istanbul Basaksehir in 2017 and enjoyed a promising first campaign, helping the Serie A club to the Champions League semifinals and third place domestically. He struggled to build on that early encouragement last season, seeing his goal haul drop from seven to three in 2018-19, as Roma endured a turbulent season on and off the pitch.
