Hazard picked up a thigh injury during training on Friday morning.
Real Madrid have confirmed that Eden Hazard has been diagnosed with a muscular injury to the anterior part of his right thigh.
The unlucky star will definitely miss Real Madrid’s La Liga opener against Celta Vigo on Saturday, as his recovery will continue to be assessed. It is expected that the injury will rule him out of action for approximately three weeks.
A club statement read: “After the tests carried out after training today on our player Eden Hazard by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury to the anterior part of his right thigh. His recovery will continue to be assessed.”
In addition to The Belgian international‘s problem, Real Madrid’s new arrivals Mendy and Rodrygo have also been recovering from injury. Former Eintracht Frankfurt player Luka Jovic is unlikely to start, as well as Edgar Militao. In addition, they are also without winger Marco Asensio for the start of the new campaign due to a serious knee injury, while Dani Carvajal is suspended.
Zinedine Zidane’s side might play tomorrow with the same 11 players that were all at club during last season.
Hazard will now join another big name, Barcelona striker Lionel Messi in missing the opening round of the 2019-20 La Liga season through injury.
The 28-year-old left Chelsea for Madrid in June for a joint-club record fee of €100 million euros, their most profile signing in a busy close season for the 13-times European champions, who spent more than €300 million on new recruits.
