Aston Villa captain could still complete switch

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph’s proposed move to Manchester City is surprisingly back on, just six days after he released a statement revealing his desire to stay at Villa Park.

The England international has been spotted entering the same hospital Raheem Sterling entered earlier in the week, sparking speculation that the Villa star is about to undergo a medical.

Although the pictures haven’t been confirmed by either club as of yet, there are strong reports that the transfer is officially back on.

City will pay Villa around ÂŁ8million for the midfielder and could sign him as soon as next week.

The news will come as a major shock to Villa fans, especially after Delph released the following statement just six days ago.

Delph’s Initial Statement

He said: “I’m aware there has been intense media speculation surrounding my future in the last 24 hours and I want to set the record straight.

“I’m not leaving. I’m staying at the football club and I can’t wait for the start of the season and captaining this great football club.”

It’s not understood why Delph has seemingly changed his mind, but it could be down to Christian Benteke‘s proposed move to Liverpool, with The Reds ready to activate the striker’s release clause.
