Ruben Amorim emerges as Contingency Option
The Liverpool Football Club is currently looking for a new manager in light of Jurgen Klopp’s imminent departure. Xabi Alonso is now the front-runner for the position, but based on recent sources, the club has an alternate candidate in case talks don’t work out.
In an interview with the Men in Blazers Podcast, renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano shared what he knows about Ruben Amorim.
“Ruben Amorim is a concrete candidate for the Liverpool job. I think he is in position number two at this moment from what I’m told. He also has a release clause in his new contract at Sporting. It is difficult to negotiate with Portuguese clubs, especially for special people like Ruben Amorim, but for sure the interest from Liverpool is there. I think Amorim is in position number two, he is a candidate for the Liverpool job at this moment more than Roberto De Zerbi,” Romano said.
Liverpool recognizes Amorim’s coaching ability despite his lack of experience at the highest level outside of Portugal. Romano’s observations reveal the club’s willingness to exploring other possibilities in order to ensure an effortless handoff in the post-Klopp era.
Even though Xabi Alonso has success with Bayern Munich and had experience with Liverpool from his playing days, Amorim’s appointment would be a risky move for the team. Liverpool must make an important decision as talks progress over who will best guide them in the future.
