Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has opened up on the ongoing crisis at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho.

The Derby County manager was one of the finest players to have emerged from the Mourinho setup during the Portuguese’s reign at the Stamford Bridge. The player-manager duo had a very productive spell in West London carving out one after another brilliant performance.

Lampard won five trophies under Mourinho and he then went on to follow the footsteps of his manager as he took up the charge at the Pride Park Stadium this season. He has had quite a good start in the Championship as the Rams are currently sitting in the ninth position in the second tier.

However, Lampard’s biggest achievement in his short span of managerial career was his Carabao Cup triumph over his mentor’s Manchester United.

Lampard said, “Everyone knows my feelings for Jose Mourinho as a manager.

“It is a tough moment. It is a moment that we will all have, that I will have at times, that every manager has.

“I have heard all his interviews lately. He is a big boy. He will get about doing his job. Of course I feel for him. They are not winning games and they want to be – it is Manchester United.

“In terms of players, it can be difficult. You need buy-in from your players and you need sometimes the right message to be coming out. I thought that as a player and I think it even more as a manager.

“And you need complete work rate on the pitch. I am not talking about individuals here, I am saying that is what you need.”
