Remi Garde expects to keep hold of striker

Gabriel Agbonlahor won’t be leaving Aston Villa this transfer window, according to manager Remi Garde.

The striker has been out of action in recent weeks due to a groin injury, but since his return, he’s only managed to play one-minute of football under the new Villa boss.

Despite being out of favour under Garde, Agbonlahor is looking set to stay at Villa Park, and the manager has all-but ended speculation about the striker’s future.

In recent weeks, Garde has opted to play Libor Kozak up front, leaving Agbonlahor on the sidelines, and although he’s not in the picture at the minute, the manager has confirmed he wants the striker to remain a Villa player.

Striker Staying Put

“I think so,” said the Frenchman, when asked if the forward would still be at the club after Monday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

“When I arrived Gabby was injured and was not in the training sessions for a long time.

The time I spent discovering the team and players he was not here.

“He has trained for the last week and seems to be better.

“If he’s in the right mood and okay physically he could give us a lift with goals.

“Every player who’s not playing is frustrated apart from 11 playing the game.

“You’re a professional player, you want to start.”
