Defender makes huge revelation about his future
Gerard Pique has announced that he will retire from international football after the 2018 world cup.
The Barcelona defender has 85 caps for his country, and has won the European Champions twice, along with the World Cup.
He was again criticised after Sunday’s win over Albania after cutting the sleeves of his shirt, leaving out the colours of the country’s flag.
Pique has since claimed he only did so because the long sleeves were bothering him.
The 28-year-old played an vital role in Spain’s success under Vicente del Bosque over the years, but will walk away after the next major tournament.
“The 2018 World Cup in Russia will be my last appearance for the Spanish national team,” he said.
“I’ve thought about it a lot. This isn’t a spur of the moment decision.
“There are people who think it’s better if I’m not here.”
