Gerard Pique dismisses Premier League return

Former-Manchester United defender, Gerard Pique, has confirmed that he has no plans on returning to England in the near future.

The Spanish centre-back has been strongly linked with a move back to Old Trafford or with a move to Chelsea, but in a recent interview, the Barca star revealed his plans are to stay in Spain and hopefully retire at the club.

The 28-year-old was reportedly in a transfer battle between United and Chelsea with both clubs willing to pay up to ÂŁ15million for the defender, but he has rubbished those reports and put a nail in the coffin of a Premier League return.

“I love this profession more and more each day,” he said. “I’d like to play for many more years.

“For now, I can tell you that I’m going to retire at Barca, either at the end of the season or in six years’ time. I won’t play for another team.”

The Spaniard added: “My objective is becoming the best centre-back in the world, but it all depends on me.

“This season I’ve been through some tough situations.

“Luis Enrique didn’t give me the continuity he’s giving me now. [When you don’t play], it’s very difficult to prove that you’re in good shape.”
