The Frenchman’s form so far this campaign has been blighted by injury

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has vowed to fight to regain his place in the Gunners’ starting XI, and doesn’t believe his future is under threat at the Emirates.

The striker has yet to start a Premier League match for the north London club this season, following issues with a toe injury which has restricted the 30-year-old to just three goals in eight appearances.

However, despite speculation about his future at Arsenal, Giroud has vowed to fight for his place in Arsene Wenger’s team and admits that injuries – on top of the alternative option Alexis Sanchez presents – have played a part in his lack of game time so far this term.

“I do not have any doubts about my future at Arsenal,” said Giroud. “There is always competition for places. There are a lot of attackers at every big club.

“At the moment, the coach prefers Sanchez up front, also because I have been injured.

“I just hope to get playing time again now. Alexis and I are different types of attackers and the coach has to make a decision.

“But I intend to come back even stronger.”

Giroud has just under two years remaining on his current Arsenal contract, but with Sanchez being the preferred option for Wenger, and excelling in his current role for the Gunners, there remain to be long-term questions about his future in north London.
