Ian Wright has said that a lot is expected of Mesut Ozil at Arsenal.

The former German international made an immediate impact on his return to the starting XI in Arsenal’s win against Burnley.

Former Arsenal ace-turned-pundit Ian Wright has said that a lot is expected of the Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil. The former German international was in gallant form in the last match against Burnley and led his side to a 3-1 victory against the Clarets. The player was left out of the squad in Arsenal’s previous encounter against arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup quarter-final, which they lost by 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Wright said, “It’s good to see him get the captaincy when you’ve seen what’s happened to him. He didn’t play against Bournemouth because of physicality and intensity. When you’re going to play against a team like Burnley, and they’re going to give you time, that’s the kind of game where people say he does well. With all the stuff that has been happening with him, with regards to back spasms and not playing the games we want to see him play, it was brilliant play.”

Ozil agreed to a new contract at the start of the season, which has made him the highest earner at the north London club in the current scenario. Wright emphasised on the fact that a lot more is expected of the player and he needs to play more often. He said, “He’s somebody who, for me, I don’t think Arsenal can afford to have a player like that and have to choose which games he can play due to back spasms or physicality. We need him playing.”
