Carlo Tavecchio refuses to confirm future

The president of the Italian FA has spoken out about Antonio Conte’s future amid speculation he’s set to join Chelsea following the European Championships.

Carlo Tavecchio has been asked in a recent interview about the future of the Italian head-coach, but he refused to comment on his long-term future, sparking speculation that a deal could be done.

Conte has admitted he wants to leave his role with Italy after the Euros because he wants to return to club management. According to reports, Conte has already held two sets of talks with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, and it’s claimed that the deal could be announced by the end of the month.

The Italian boss is eager for the deal to be sorted by the end of March, so that he knows what’s happening with his future ahead of the Euros.

When asked about Conte’s future, the president of the Italian FA refused to comment on the future, claiming the manager is solely focused on his job as national manager.

Statement

“For me, at the moment, Conte is with the national team and is working with desire, skill and sacrifice,” Tavecchio said.

“We are taking the first steps to do well in the European Championship, but beyond that, only time will tell.”
