Roman Abramovich would have to pay-up if he wants to sack Portuguese

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has recently been given the vote of confidence by owner Roman Abramovich, but that might be because of how much he’d have to pay in order to sack the Special One.

The Blues have had a nightmare start to their Premier League defence, winning just two games out of the opening eight and sitting 16th in the table.

However, after the 3-1 defeat to Southampton at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho had a crisis meeting with Abramovich and the club’s board, and they all decided that he is still the right man to take the club forward.

Chelsea released a statement earlier in the week outlining their desire to keep Mourinho as they believe he is the man to turn their season around.

Severance Package

If Abramovich does eventually choose to sack the manager however, he would have to fork out a world-record fee.

According to reports, Chelsea would have to pay Mourinho £37.5million if they wanted to sack him, which is more than the transfer fees for the likes of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas.

Mourinho signed a new four-year deal in the summer and would be given a whopping severance package if he was sacked.

In recent years, Abramovich has spent a lot of money on sackings.

Luis Felipe Scolari cost the Russian £12.6m, Andre Villas-Boas cost £12m and Carlo Ancelotti took the club for £6m.
