Liverpool vs Everton: Match Prediction and Preview
The Merseyside derby takes place tonight with both teams desperate for bragging rights. It’s that time again, as Liverpool and Everton face off in another Merseyside derby at Anfield.
The two sides will mainly be playing for bragging rights over the other, although both of them also wouldn’t mind adding a few points to their name – Liverpool are nine points behind fourth but they could still creep into the top six, while Everton will want to break into the top ten.
It will also be an interesting affair, with Toffees’ fans growing tired of boss Roberto Martinez and many calling for his head, so a loss could increase the pressure on the current gaffer while Jurgen Klopp may also be focused on Europe now, meaning a chance for the away side to get a result here.
It’s sure to be an interesting watch anyway and here is our preview for the derby!
Predicted Line-Up and Injury News
For Liverpool, they still have a number of players on the sidelines. Emre Can and Jordan Henderson will of course miss the tie and Benteke, Ings, Gomez and Toure will also play no part.
Divock Origi has also picked up a slight back injury and it means there is a chance that he too could be rested so that he makes a full recovery in time for the club’s next Europa League game. It’s likely then that Sturridge will start up-front on his own, with Coutinho and co behind him.
As for Everton, they too have a number of doubts. Leighton Baines is doubtful, as is Jagielka and Cleverley. Aaron Lennon is likely to also miss out.
Goal-machine Romelu Lukaku is likely to start though, while the away side should also still have key players like Ross Barkley and Funes Mori available to start.
Liverpool vs Everton: Key Facts
There are a lot of signs pointing to this match being a draw in terms of stats – Everton have drawn their last three Premier League matches, while the sides have played out a draw in six of their last seven meetings in all competitions.
As for goals, Liverpool have managed to bag at least two goals in seven of their last eight Premier League games, which is something for the Toffees defence to worry about!
Liverpool vs Everton: Predictions
As for my prediction, I can see this one ending in a draw. Both sides don’t have too much to play for in terms of the league now, with both sides obviously safe from relegation and a relative way away from the top four and five.
Merseyside derbies do tend to be fiery affairs though and I’m sure it will be an interesting game. Liverpool have been on good form lately and they will fancy themselves to nick all the points here, especially against an Everton side whose form has gone in the opposite direction and dropped a bit.
Despite this poor form though, I think Everton could put up a bit of a fight. Lukaku is sure to be a handful if he starts (which I’m sure he will) and add in the threat of Barkley and others and it won’t be easy for the Reds defence.
Klopp’s side are in good form though as previously mentioned and are riding on a wave of momentum after a memorable win against Borussia Dortmund and victory over Bournemouth. Lovren and Sakho are likely to be the ones defending the goal and both of them have been pretty good in recent fixtures.
I just can’t separate these sides. I’d give Liverpool the edge slightly but I feel as if Everton might put up a bit of a fight against their Merseyside rivals and it could end up nabbing them a point.
My Prediction – 2-2.
