The nominees for January’s Manager of the Month and Player of the Month have been announced today, with both Jose Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini up for the award.
Mourinho’s side picked up 10 points from a possible 12 in January after picking up wins against Southampton, Hull City and Manchester United. They also progressed through two rounds of the FA Cup thanks to victories against Derby County and Stoke City.
As for Pellegrini, his City side played a whopping nine games in all competitions, and amazingly, his side won eight of them.
The Citizens picked up maximum points in the Premier League, including a 5-1 smashing of Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane, and they also progressed through both the FA Cup and also into the final of the Capital One Cup, where they will meet Gus Poyet’s Sunderland, who has also been nominated for the award.
Since joining from Brighton and Hove Albion, Poyet has lifted The Black Cats from bottom of the Premier League table to 14th place, and in January, his side picked up seven points in the league, whilst also reaching the Capital One Cup final after seeing off Manchester United.
The final nominee goes to Crystal Palace’s Tony Pulis. Although the Eagles sit just one point above the drop zone, January was a good month for Pulis and co. as they picked up seven crucial points.
As for Player of the Month, Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, Sunderland’s Adam Johnson, Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla and Liverpool’s Luis Suarez have all been nominated for their superb performances over the month.
Toure was on the score-sheet for games against Spurs, Swansea City and Cardiff City, whilst Johnson scored five times for Sunderland, Cazorla struck three times, and Suarez netted four.
