Premier League side offered £88million
Manchester United were ready to pay up to £88million for Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller, according to reports.
It was well documented that Louis van Gaal wanted to bring the German international to Old Trafford, but the Red Devils failed in their pursuit with Munich standing firm.
United had already captured Bastian Schweinsteiger from the Bundesliga champions, but after discussing a potential deal for Muller, the German giants refused to sell.
United Wanted Muller
According to German magazine Kicker, the Premier League outfit had kept aside a contract worth around £10m-a-year for Muller just in case they managed to persuade Munich to sell.
However, United were told no and Muller remained at the Allianz Arena.
These reports come just a day after Munich’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted that the club cannot fend off Premier League giants because of the financial strengths in English football.
