According to reports in Spain, Manchester United missed out on the chance to appoint former-Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti, on two separate occasions.

The Italian, who is now in charge of Real Madrid, is set to sign a new deal at the Bernabeu after guiding them to Champions League victory last season, but reports have emerged that all things could have been different back in 2013.

After Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement, he reportedly travelled to Paris in order to talk to Ancelotti about replacing him.

However, the Paris Saint-Germain boss at the time, told Sir Alex that he’d prefer a move to Madrid instead.

Then, after David Moyes’ 10-month tenure came to an end, officials at United tried to appoint Ancelotti once again, but failed and eventually brought in Louis Van Gaal.

Ancelotti is one of the favourites to now replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.
