United ready to spend big on Real Madrid star

Manchester United are ready to beat Chelsea to the signing of Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, and are prepared to break the British transfer record in the process.

The Red Devils currently hold the British transfer record which they set when signing Angel Di Maria from Madrid back in the summer of 2014. United spent ÂŁ59.7million on the Argentinian, and it’s believed they are ready to spend more in order to land the Colombian star.

Rodriguez has been strongly linked with a move away from the Bernabeu in recent months, with Premier League duo United and Chelsea keen on signing him.

Transfer Ban to Impact?

However, their chances may have taken a hit with the news that Madrid cannot sign anyone after this transfer window until the summer of 2017.

Despite the transfer ban, Rodriguez is failing to break into the first-team in Spain and according to reports, his agent has made clubs aware of his situation.

The 24-year-old was out-of-favour under Rafa Benitez and was also left out of Zinedine Zidane‘s first-team for his debut game in charge.

Madrid spent ÂŁ61m on signing Rodriguez from AS Monaco after he impressed during the 2014 World Cup.
