Manchester United have confirmed they are going to play two matches in Australia to kick start their preseason tour next year.

United are scheduled to play two matches including a face off with their archrival Leeds United at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The Red Devils will face Perth Glory on 13th July and then will take on the Whites four days later.

This will be United’s first meeting with Leeds after a gap of eight years. United’s last encounter with Leeds was way back in 2011-12 season when the Red Devils crashed them 3-0 in a League Cup encounter courtesy to a Michael Owen brace.

United’s visit to Australia will be their fifth in the club history which started way back in 1967. United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward said, “Our pre-season tour is an integral part of the squad’s preparation for the forthcoming season and after what will be a forty-four year absence since we last played in Perth, we are delighted to be returning to Western Australia to play not just one, but two games against Perth Glory and Leeds United.

“As well as preparing for the season ahead, the club will also have the opportunity to engage with our loyal fans in Australia, who last got the chance to see us play in Sydney in 2013.”
