Clement Lenglet has impressed since he arrived in Spain
Manchester United are expected to add defensive reinforcements this season as Jose Mourinho plans major changes next season. Apart from Eric Bailly, other defenders have failed to show consistency or struggled with injuries. The Portuguese also admitted that he will only sign defenders in the transfer window.
United have put Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet on their wish list. The Frenchman impressed them in the Champions League defeat against the La Liga team in March and scouts have been to Spain to check on the mobile centre-half.
Clement joined Sevilla in the January transfer window of 2017 and has quietly impressed for them in all competitions. The 22 year old is 6 feet 2 inches tall and is the type of player that could fit into the English game. He is a left-footed centre-back with pace, physical strength and excellent positional sense.
But United could face competition from a La Liga club. The English giants are set to battle for Barcelona for Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet, according to The Sun .
Barcelona also wants to sign a new defender this summer, as they are still dealing with Samuel Umtiti’s contract situation and Thomas Vermaelen is expected to leave at the end of the season. They have identified Lenglet as the replacement and he also fits their bill.
The defender have a release clause of just €30 million but has admitted that he is very happy at Sevilla. The club is also keen to keep him and wants him to stay for few years before moving to a big club.
