Tottenham appear to be the shock frontrunners to sign Napoli playmaker Marek Hamsik, ahead of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Napoli chairman Aurelio de Laurentiis has a good relationship with Tottenham technical director Franco Baldini, giving Spurs a realistic chance of landing the Slovakian international.
Hamsik is discontent with his football in southern Italy, and is looking for pastures new in the near future.
Fresh reports say Hamsik could be allowed to leave for £20 million in January, or even £12 million next summer.
Napoli were knocked out of the Champions League qualifying by Athletic Bilbao, and look unlikely to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition this season either.
Hamsik may have to be sold for financial reasons.
