Manchester City centre back Martin Demichelis has been charged by the FA for alleged betting offences, according to the football association.

It has been said that the 35 year old committed 12 breaches of FA Rule E8 concerning football matches between 22 January 2016 and January 28 2016. Since joining the club back in 2013, the Argentine has played 94 times under Chilean Manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The FA recently tweeted to confirm these allegations.

What is Rule E8?

Rule E8 is intended to stop players from betting on matches or competitions in which they take part, or in which they have ‘any influence’.
The rule prohibits betting on managerial changes, any matches involving under-18s and potential managerial changes.
E8 forbids them players from passing inside information on to others or betting on any matter in which they can be deemed to have inside information.

The defender has until 5pm on 5 April to respond to the charge.
