Mauricio Pochettino has admitted another 10 years would be needed for Tottenham Hotspur to clinch the Premier League title.

A 2-1 loss to Burnley means Spurs are now six points behind table toppers Liverpool and the gap could get extended as Pochettino’s side is scheduled to travel to Chelsea on Wednesday.

The North Londoners showed title credentials without their main man Harry Kane and Dele Alli but have faltered once again at this crucial time. Spurs’ mentality has been questioned time and time again and their defeat in the last match could prove to be vital in the title race.

Pochettino conceded the fact that his side still lacks the winning desire. “If you want to be a real contender, playing well or not, it’s (the game against Burnley) a must-win.

“You need to show you are fighting for big things and I am frustrated because we didn’t show the same energy as Burnley, the same attitude as Burnley, the same ambition as Burnley.

“We have to look at ourselves and maybe assess ourselves in different ways – we are not looking for excuses.

“It is holding us back and it might take five years’ work, 10 years’ work to change that.”
