Newcastle United cannot sit back and relax as they are yet to reach the desired goal, Rafa Benitez has insisted.

A brilliant strike from Fabian Schar and academy graduate Sean Longstaff netted the second as the Magpies moved another step towards their safety with a 2-0 win over Burnley. Four wins in the last six top flight matches have strengthened their position and they are currently seven points adrift of the relegation zone.

Questions hav been raised over Benitez’s future as the 58 year old hasn’t committed his future till now with his existing contract set to expire at the end of this season.

The Spanish gaffer was pretty unhappy with how owner Mike Ashley has handled things at the club but the recent turn of events may have changed his mindset.

Benitez said, “Winning games you have more confidence but we have to take one game at a time. We are where we are now because we focused on that and we have to keep doing the same.

“We cannot think the job is done, no chance. We have confidence and we have to keep going. We can lose games but we have to approach every game with the same mentality and the players know it is like that.”
