Arsenal midfielder, Mikel Arteta, has highlighted the importance of Arsenal scoring first in games.

The Spaniard was talking after they suffered their second defeat of the season against strugglers Norwich. An early Grant Holt goal was enough to beat Arsenal, despite the amount of possession the North London side had.

Going behind in games is a common thing for Arsenal and it was the fourth time in eight games that the opposition had scored first. They were also the team that had to make most comebacks last season.

Arteta has stated if Arsenal want to be serious title contenders, they need to start making their dominance in games show with goals.

“It’s not the first time we have conceded the first goal,” said Arteta. “It’s very difficult.

“If you go ahead it gives you a lift, the other team has to take risks and you can cause mistakes.

“You can’t get back into the game every time you fall behind.

“It’s a tough ask and we haven’t done it.”

He added: “For the amount of ball we had in the game, we should have done more and created more scoring situations.

“We are down because we know how good we are and good we can be.”

Arsenal will now have two days to prepare for their Champions League game on Wednesday night at home against Schalke.
