Mourinho insists he has enough attacking options

Zlatan Ibrahimovic left Manchester United to join MLS side LA Galaxy few days ago, after just making 7 appearances for the Reds this season. But he was prolific for them last season where he scored 28 goals from 46 appearances and won EFL cup and Europa league. No wonder he has left a gap in the United squad and it is believed that they will try to sign a striker to compete with Romelu Lukaku.

Though United don’t have an obvious replacement for Lukaku as both Rashford and Martial are played in the wings, Jose Mourinho has ruled out that he will be signing any striker to replace Zlatan. Mourinho insists that he has enough attacking options and particularly Rashford, who can play many positions. Even new signing Alexis is versatile enough to play different positions.

“We have Lukaku and Marcus Rashford as number nines, and of course Marcus can play right and left, but Marcus is a striker,” he told the media.

“Alexis can play as a striker, [Anthony] Martial can play as a striker, so without having another Lukaku, we have three more players that can play as a nine.”

The Portuguese coach also revealed he would consider switching formations should he be without the services of leading scorer Lukaku.

“If we don’t have Lukaku for different reasons, we can change systems and play with two and give more mobility to, for example, Marcus and Martial together, Marcus and Alexis together, so we are not going to go for another number nine,” Mourinho added.
