Moyes believes United STILL have a chance to qualify for the Champions League despite table position

Manchester United manager David Moyes is refusing to admit defeat in his sides quest for Champions League qualification.

Moyes has endured a turbulent first season in the Old Trafford hot seat, which could end in United missing out on European competition altogether. The prospect of last years Premier League winners missing out on Champions League is something that the Old Trafford faithful would never had considered at the start of the season.

United currently lie 7th and 11 points beneath Arsenal in fourth and face an almost impossible task of qualifying for the continent’s premier competition.

Wether or not Moyes believes in his own words is another matter but publicly at least he remains confident.

‘Until it is impossible for us to qualify for next Season’s Champions League with a top-four finish, we will continue to try and reach that goal,’ Moyes wrote in his programme notes.

‘Football is cynical and it will not be long before we are on the up.

‘The title race is something we are aiming to be involved in over the coming campaigns, just as we have been in the past.’

Although without Champions League qualification United may struggle to convince the right type of player to join, hindering the chances of future success.

Moyes has been backed by United legend Sir Bobby Charlton ahead of the game, insisting that the former Everton boss is ‘right’ for the job.

This comes on the same day as Fernandinho of Manchester City chose to taunt United revealing his surprise at the poor displays this season. Most notably the 4-1 demolition back in September.
