Munir El Haddadi has said that Ernesto Valverde was forbidden from picking him for Barcelona.

The player joined Sevilla earlier this month and has spoken about him being frozen out at the Nou Camp.

Former Barcelona forward Munir El Haddadi has said that Barca manager Ernesto Valverde was forbidden from picking him in the squad. The Spaniard’s comments came following his move to Sevilla, which he completed earlier this month. The player was frozen out at the Nou Camp and has now spoken about the real reason behind him quitting the club.

Speaking to the media following his official presentation at Sevilla, the player said, “When I returned from holiday [at the start of January] I told the club that I did not want to renew.”

He added, ”The coach [Valverde] told me that he was forbidden from counting on me by those above him. I kept working and I was lucky to come before [June] to Sevilla.”

The player made his debut against Athletico Bilbao as a substitute in Sevilla’s 2-0 defeat. He joins former Barcelona teammate Aleix Vidal and would be staying at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium until 2023.
