Nikola Zigic has revealed that Arsenal were interested in him during the Summer, but eventually went for Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck instead.
Arsene Wenger was in the market for a new striker once Olivier Giroud picked up a serious leg injury, ruling him out for four months at least, and reports broke that the Frenchman had contacted Zigic, who was earlier released by Birmingham City.
The tall, Serbian striker, who is still looking for a club, has admitted that a deal was in place and Wenger did want to sign him during the transfer window, but went for a different option.
“Everything that you saw in the press was true,” he said.
“My agent was talking with Arsenal but they finally opted for another player.
“We talked with them until the last few days of the market.
“I am very happy because Arsenal had me on their list. I would have liked it.
“Big teams always consider several alternatives before signing one.”
