Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has confirmed he will stay at the club despite interest from Barcelona, revealing his decision in a lavish video documentary.
Since joining Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad back in 2014, he has been a mainstay in the team. He has given numerous impressive performances and has established himself as one of the best strikers in the World.
The 27 year old has been a regular for La Liga giants this season and, scoring 29 goals in all competitions. He helped his team to finish 2nd in the La Liga and inspired them to win the Europa League last month.
Despite being contracted with Atletico until the summer of 2022, the France International has been heavily linked with a exit from the club. He has been heavily linked with a move to rivals Barcelona in recent weeks with reports claiming that they are ready to pay his £88 million release clause.
The Forward kept a tight silence on the subject throughout France’s World Cup preparations but recently confirmed that he will make an announcement about his future by the end of this week, before the World Cup starts.
The player has finally buried speculation over his future with the news that he will remain at the Wanda Metropolitano.
“My fans, my team, my home,” he finally exclaimed in a message that was also released simultaneously on his Twitter page and shared by his relieved club.
“I have decided to stay,” said Griezmann as quoted by Goal
“They are doing everything they can to keep Atletico growing and so that they can play the Champions League final, hopefully at home [in 2019].
“They are making an effort to bring top players. This is going to make a difference.”
“I feel there are things to do with Atletico,” he added.
“If they [Atleti] buy good players we can win the Champions League here and enter the history of the club. Here, I would make history. At Barcelona, I would just be one more.
“The decision I make is taken with 100 per cent certainty, as I did at Real Sociedad or when I came here. I will not regret it.”
