Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain’s World Cup hopes are hanging by a thread following a serious knee injury.

Chamberlain was making his first real start since 20th April, and injured his knee during the 2-2 draw with the South America side.

And now the Arsenal winger is awaiting the results of a scan, after limping off in the fixture in Miami.

Chamberlain was pictured limping towards a car following the game, and will travel to a Miami Hospital tomorrow.

Hodgson said. “His knee buckled under the challenge as the player turned into him. He’ll have a scan tomorrow, I’d imagine. When we’ve had the scan, we’ll know more.

“When I have to cross that bridge, I’ll do that. At the moment I don’t know the extent of the injury. I’ll have to wait before making any other comment.” Asked if any potential call-up would come from the original 30-man squad, he added: “You’re asking questions I hope I will not need to answer. My hope is that Oxlade-Chamberlain will not be seriously injured. He did ever so well and looked really sharp. It would be an enormous blow if we were to lose him, so I’d prefer to concentrate on the satisfaction and positivity I can take from the game.”
