Real Madrid pays homage to Chelsea boss

Raphael Varane has thanked Jose Mourinho for the influence he had on his career after signing him for Real Madrid.

The Frenchman was brought to the Bernabeu by Mourinho during his time at the club and Varane has admitted that he owes a lot to the now-Chelsea manager.

Speaking in an interview, Varane admitted that Mourinho helped him settle to Spanish life after moving from Lens back in 2011, and he also made him work and train harder in order to reach his full potential.

Varane and Mourinho have always had a special relationship, with the Blues boss labeling the centre-back as one of the best young defenders in the world.

Chelsea have been strongly linked with making a move for the Frenchman ever since Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge, and the defender has admitted he owes a lot to The Special One.

Varane Speaks About Changes

“I was very hyper, not like how I appear calm today,” Varane told Marca.

“I was too playful with my brothers and sisters. They had to calm me down.

“You can live without worries when you’re young.

“But that phone call from Madrid changed everything. It was the craziest moment of my life.

“The phone kept ringing. I spent my exams signing autographs for the other students. I didn’t understand what was happening. It was surreal.”
