Liverpool offered the player to Madrid, only for Los Blancos to turn down any potential deal

Real Madrid rejected the opportunity to sign Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish media suggested that manager Rafael Benitez was keen to tie up a deal for Moreno to return to his homeland as a replacement for Fabio Coentrao, who moved to French side Monaco on a season-long loan deal.

Moreno is yet to start a game for Liverpool this season, and the Anfield outfit were ready to part ways with the player, who signed from Sevilla in the summer of 2014.

BENITEZ OPTED AGAINST THE MOVE:

Spanish publication AS claim that Rafael Benitez opted against making a late move for the internationally-capped individual, who has been deemed surplus to requirements at Liverpool.

Moreno has had a difficult time at Liverpool, following his £12m move, with the 25-year-old slipping down the pecking order, with recent recruit  Joe Gomez the preferred option for Brendan Rodgers.

Italian side Roma, and Real’s fierce rivals, Barcelona had also expressed an interest.
